GLOBAL OPERATIONS STRATEGY
I believe we are now entering an new era for Global Operations Management where “stand-alone” cost reduction efforts are a given, and have delivered all of the expected benefits, hence much less of a differentiator… BUT, an era where a new holistic Global Operations Strategy can become a differentiator once again, even become a market disrupting lever… Customers expect low cost products / services / solutions, but they now also want all the enhancements, value-added extras, for the same low cost, namely; shorter lead-times, more flexibility in supply, higher quality, small lot sizes, faster responses… turn it off, turn it on, switch geography, change specification, etc. In a nutshell it's about "orchestrating the supply-matrix" with much more precision, skill and speed!
This requires a new approach, a new way of thinking about Global Operations, a new strategy, and that strategy should be based on companies developing and managing all the necessary capabilities, whether it is in-house, out-sourced, through suppliers or in a network of partners. This new integrated approach I am calling:-
Global Operations Orchestration (GOO)
